I have always been interested in witchcraft and never had anybody to lead me. Can you suggest anything to help get me going? Is there a place I could go to learn? I live in the twin cities, MN.

I studied and was trained as a Gardenerian witch many years ago.
You have not stated what path you wish to learn about.
I would advise against becoming involved in the dark arts,at any level.
To be successful at any form of the craft you have to commit many years of study.
But, to gain a good perspective of modern witchcraft begin reading. A good coverage can be found in:Neville Dury's,The History of Witchcraft in the Modern Age.
Also I would recomend Raymond Bucklands books, there are quite a few.
For a female perspective I think that Starkhawk's classic:The Spiral Dance,is a must.As yet unsurpassed.
I would avoid getting involved with web "groups" until you know more about the Craft.
Avoid those who offer to teach you the arts for money. true adepts never accept a fee. A donation may be appropriate, only if you wish,it is never expected.
Be careful, there are many unscrupulous people out there who make outlandish claims.
The reality is.
It takes many many years to be able to do even simple incantations, castings or spells, all the same thing. even the word prayer is apt. It involves much more than reciting a few words under a phase of the moon.
Get in touch with nature, watch the sunrise and the sunset. See the seasons change, each with its own magic.
Most importantly ,learn who you are!
Blessings and Good Luck always be with you

Start READING up!
These are very good places to start.

Try these books by Scott Cunningham and Raymond Buckland...

Also look for a book called "Drawing Dawn the Moon" and "The Spiral Dance"

Also read plenty of more general stuff Like Greaves, The White Goddess, The Golden Bough etc....
Also; In terms of fiction, Marrion Zimmer Bradley has alway been very popular with witches - esp. The Mists of Avalon

Any of the books that the previous poster had listed is a good place to start.

But I want to caution you BEFORE you start looking into this too deeply, that you need to learn to strengthen your aura first. If you don't you could leave yourself open to psychic attacks. A good book to start with because it explains what the aura is and how to go about strengthening it is "Psychic Self-Defense" by Denning and Phillips. It gives great examples for everyone...not only the practicing witch should read this either, because our aura is elemental to who we are and everyone has one.

The reason it is so important to practitioners to protect their aura, is because once you start "testing" magick, it can easily come and bite you in the a$$, and you need to be able to tell when it is warrented, and when it isn't, and how to get through it if it is.

Well is best if you by books and read them, for some people is difficult for spells to work. You need the knowledge and understating of your elements and space... If you by books that can help you out alot. As for taking classes I would fall for it, there are many people out there can deceive you. Try it alone for a while and then reach out for help, but it is very important that you find IT in you first.
