I use to turn off my DSL modem each time I turned off my computer but then one day, for no reason, my DSL modem wouldn't turn on. It would only stay on if I manually kept the power button pushed in. Eventually I got it to stay on, but from that point on if I turned it off, I would have trouble getting it on again. I tried unplugging and then replugging in all the wires. Nothing helps. It takes FOREVER for me to get it to stay on again. So I now just keep it on all the time. I haven't had any problems so far. Should I call SBC to get a new DSL modem??? There is obviously *something* wrong with mine. If not - how often, if ever, should I turn off my DSL modem to give it a break?

you may want to replace it, but there is really no reason to turn off a modem. its not going to hurt anything, and the things are made to stay on for thousands of hours at a time.

This question has already been answered. Dont turn off your modem. there is really no need to. i wont if i had a choice (i live in a 3rd world country where the power aint steady). So my modem will go off anyway. and i mean everyday. lets not go into that. anyway u can change it if its on warranty or something and then just let it be. or u can keep using dis one. there is something nerdish and nice about using somtin dats not in the greatst condition.

Be nice and give me th e point for a correct answer. the other guys wuld understnd. i havnt had extra points in a while.

If your renting the modem, then request a new one. Have the new one first then send the old one back. If your not renting it, then leave it on, mine's on 24/7

you can leave it on... if your energy conscience, you can turn it off, but its only a few cents.... if you have a virus that you cannot remove, definetly turn off your modem

also, if you reset/turn of or on frequently, your modem/computer may automaticaly make firmware downloads, which make your interne'/computer more secure and comes from your provider.

Acctually leaving it on makes it perform faster, s it's ok to leave it on, it doesnt need a break.
