This music may have been created to sound like certain popular music, but it is not from an actual pop song. I'm told that The special features (commentary?) on the Season 2 DVD release says that the producers wanted to use U2's "With or Without You," but didn't have time to arrange for the rights, so they found a studio music clip that sounded "U2-ish". Later, they found chances to use the actual U2 song in other Ross /Rachel moments, including in the very next episode
