I have lived without electricity and I appreciate having it. If you've had to carry all your drinking, cooking and bath water you'd be very thankful for running water, too, especially hot water! I have been discussing the purchase of an electric generator with my husband. Even if you have a gas stove, furnace and refrigerator, they require electronic ignition. They won't start without electricity! Even wood pellet stoves require electricity to get burning and most have fans to distribute the heat.

We are fortunate to have reliable electricity. We need to be as energy efficient as possible and look for new sources of power!

I lived during the hurricane times and we didn't have electricity for 3 weeks.. that means... no TV, no computer, no school, no fridge working, no air conditioner, no stove (luckily we had a gas stove), no washing machine, no stores were open... I spent the whole day listening to the radio (worked on batteries).

But man, it really sucked!!... And at night its sooo freaking hot... damn.. I hated it. I couldn't live without electricity. Thank you Thomas Edison!!

Would it be bearable? Eventually. I wouldn't like it, AT ALL, but if I had my wife and kids, other people, books, sports, etc., I think I'd find things to do.

The harder parts would be the decline in medical care, sewage and sanitation, and some of the parts of life we take for granted.

But... people lived happily without electricity for thousands of years. I'd rather have it, but I think life would be bearable without it. To say otherwise would be to make electricity into a god of sorts.

I'm an avid outdoors man. I camp almost every weekend when I can afford it. Electricity is nothing more than one more bill I have to pay. I'd fit in perfectly fine if I should find myself without power one day. What you really need is fire. Master fire and you've got it made. Heat, clean water, ability to cook, light, romantic mood setting... nothing fire can't do for you.

It is amazing how much we depend on electricity when you experience a power failure. Wow no heat or hot water but I have gas? Electric ignition, electric pumps and fans. No water? Electric pump if you are on a well. What is weird is we will go into a room and still flip the light switch. Duh!

No way, I can't imagine my life without it, if we really think about it electricity is involved in everything these days.
