What kind of computer do you have? How much RAM? How much hard disk space? What else are you using your PC for?

Your computer could be crashing because its overtaxed (does not have enough resources to handle the load). This can happen when your on the internet because your browser is loading java applets or because the browser itself is too much for your computer to handle. If this is the case your computer should crash if you have multiple applications running at the same time or if you use a processor or memory intensive application like a video game, graphics editor or possibly a movie player. If you can run multiple apps and or use one of those types of applications then your probably not having a resource problem.

Once you've verified that the next thing to consider is that you have a virus or spyware program which may be crashing your computer, but it only becomes active when you connect to the internet. These types of programs can be very difficult to clean and can hide themselves from your Virus scanner or Spyware detector. You could try booting in Safe Mode (press F8 during the boot sequence and then select Safe Mode with Networking Support) if you can connect to the internet in this mode without crashing you probably do have a Virus or Spyware doing the damage, and you may need help to find it. You can also probably scan your PC in Safe Mode (depending on your scanner), but it still may not find it.

Now if you are in Safe Mode and the computer crashes when you access the internet your probably having a hardware problem. If you're using a Modem it could be the Modem otherwise it would be your Network Card. I have seen a computer crash whenever someone connected to the internet because of a faulty network card. That said if you have an integrated network card (which is very common nowadays) you might be hosed, but you could try adding a network card and disabling the one thats there.

I'm leaning toward the faulty hardware because you say its totally random when it crashes. Software problems and Virus/Spyware problems tend to be consistent about how they show up (ie. I do this or I do that and then it always crashes). If you have access to another network card or modem that would be the first thing I'd check.

Well you got the cheapo problem found in many computers that free and the antivirus can not find anything. YOU NEED MORE RAM. What happens is your internal memory needs to be upgraded. Find out what the max memory that your computer can handle and then find out what you have and upgrade.

Also, if you have an old system and trying to run these new games that will be another cause of freezing. But if it freezes doing different things then it is the memory problem. Also, check on what memory your computer uses and has. Cause you can not put 2 GB in and expect it to work if your computer can handle only 1 GB, just a waste of money. Also different type of memory and again there are different 512 Mb memory modules. You have to find the right type of 512 Mb for your computer.

I personally have IE7 and it LAGS big time, so while the people at Microsoft are working out the kinks, try switching to Mozilla Firefox. It just works. Hope it helps.

Occasionally the problem will be with not enough RAM. I don't know how to help you there. Sorry.

If you using IE 7 then it's a commong problem. It's a bug that they are trying to work out. I know it's a pain but they will figure it out soon enough.
