There's only one WOW, and that would be the original. You can't play Burning Crusade without the original World of Warcraft.
Yes, World of Warcraft is online. It'll cost you 15 bucks a month, but the first month is free when you buy the game.

the base game is $20 and yes, it is only online play. Offline play would totally kill the feel of the game. There is an expansion that just came out, but you onl;y need the base game to play, though if you want to two new races, you should get the expansion as well. It runs $40.

there's only 1 WOW and the other is an expansion pack.
so you need the original to play the expansion.
