Should we take it lightly in this day and age? I dont think its funny in this day and age to say some of the things people say. We are on terrorist alert after 9 11 and i takes things personal. Some guy asked a question that the world would be a better place if all americans were arradicated? You think thats funny? Am i wrong?

This is directed to Vanessa M. Contrary to your belief, I (a U.S. citizen) am honestly glad that other countries criticize the Bush administration and our exploitive system of capitalism.
But your faulty logic annoys me. "If they cared what the world thought about them, they would change, simple as that" is what you decided about the "idiots" who responded to your girlfriend's obvious attempt at provoking outrage. You think that twenty people can change the attitude and actions of almost 300 million? I suppose you yourself can just get together with a group of your friends and influence your countries politics at will.

Really, what I despise is nationalism. I live in the U.S. because I was BORN here. That is all. I have no nationalism. I despise stereotypes and ethnocentricity. I hope Bush is indicted. I do not like my country any more than any other country, and because I live here, I happen to hate more things about this country than you probably do. I happen to believe that people are a product of their circumstances. If you were born and raised in the U.S. then you would probably hate French people or someone...if your personality wasn't affected by the different circumstances of your parallel life. You seem like the type that would despise some group of people in any type of situation because it makes you feel more superior, or helps the illusion that the group you belong to is the righteous one. There is no such thing. Grow up.

I'd also like to clarify that not all Americans are racist, and some of the people in your country are. And also, saying that you want to exterminate an entire nation of people is not constructive criticism in my opinion. It is more akin to what the Americans (who were mostly British at the time) did to the Native Americans, and a lot like what Hitler tried to do to the Jewish and other "unsavory" characters.
But I digress. Saying you want to exterminate people is, like, such a funny prank! It's almost as funny as the Iraq war....not funny at all.

I think its stupid to use 9/11 as an excuse for everything, but threats should be taken on a case by case basis.

In some countries, they can be considered hate crimes.

If some guy ask if the world would be a better place if all Americans were eradicated, I'd answer him very honestly, as a Canadian. God, no, I'd say.

(If not for USA, my ancestors would have had to bow to Stalin,...)

America is a great country, but you have to accept that it is not first in popularity. you should consider why 9 11 happened, America should go ahead and promote the good things they do for other countries because in other countries America is mainly known for going to countries and destroyed them and then leave with what they want. (Spanish-American war, Vietnam, ,Iraq1,Afghanistan,Iraq2)

Probably depends on the context, I mean if he said it completely seriously, yeah, it's not funny, or even if he had any sort of actual thought or belief attached to that, it's definitely not funny. But if he was honestly kidding, it probably wasn't the best choice of a joke, but it's not something to be too mad about in my opinion.

You are a right ****, For starters, He is a female, Secondly, It was a joke get over it, I work with her and we just wanted to see your reaction, to prove that most americans are stupid rednecks (not all of you, infact some are rather nice)I do not see why you get all offended by the smallest comment ment in jest, and yet the rest of the world (and the families of the people dead because of action on americas part) are not allowed to complain, Its alright for you to make comments on everyone else, state your feelings about it, make racist comments, but "God" help anyone who dares to say something about your pefect nation.
