My sister-in-law got married the same day I did, About a year into the relationship her husband decided to leave the relationship. She has since heard that he has moved to another state and remarried. How does she find out if he divorced her? She doesn't want him back or anything she just wants to know if she is still married or not. His family are the ones who said that he remarried.

I don't know about other states but in this state you just have to post your divorce in the paper and if their is no responce then your divorce is granted. We all got married out of state as well. Would he be able to post it in what ever was his local paper and get a divorce that way? He could of just told the court that he didn't know where she was.

She doesn't know where he is locatted!!! And as I said I don't know about other states but here you just have to list it in the paper, the other party does not have to show up and does not have to sign any papers.

Is he LEGALLY married or just residing with another women. You know sometimes people get confused about those things. And she'd know if she was divorced she'd have been at some point served with papers. You say she doesnt know where he is, well if they were married and had either filed income tax, had a joint account, bought a house-car together she has his SSN. If he is working he can be located through just his SSN. Frankly if she is so concerned why doesnt she just file divorce papers if they are already divorced then nothing will come of it

I believe that there has to be an attempt to contact her otherwise how is he going to split assets? I've never heard of divorces granted after posting an ad in the newspaper. Just check out the register of deeds at the courthouse if you don't want to ask him. If there is no divorce he can't legally be remarried.

Ha ha ha... she'd know if she was divorced. She'd have to have been served with papers. Sounds like he's a polygamist.
She should look into it. If she can't afford a lawyer, tell her to call her local bar association for advice.

Assume he and she are still married. Divorce is a two party deal. If she didn't agree and/or sign any papers, they're probably still married and he's a bigamist.

well the court should have sent you the papers. to let you know about it.you have to find out what state he did it in. first of all. unless you want to spend the money to see a lawyer. get on your p/c to see what you can find out.
