i've sprained both of my ankles more times than i can remember. probably the worst time was my sophmore year of college. i was attending a military college as a cadet and was going through the NCOA (non-commissioned officer academy) the week before classes start. the first day i was running up a hill in formation in my boots and my ankle turned under. i feel with all my weight landing on top of it and it started swelling up so fast they almost had to cut the boot off.
they sent me to the E.R. for x-rays but it wasn't broken just a really bad sprain. they splinted it and gave me a prescribtion for a pain killers and an anti-inflammatory. i had to wait for a couple hours before someone from the school could come pick me up and take me back.
by the time i got back there the physican who worked at the school was there. he and the nurses wanted to send me home. i was in some much pain and knew if i went home i'd never hear the end of it (from my family or the other cadets) so i begged them to let me stay and finish out the training, which they ended up doing but i was under strict light duty which meant i wasn't allowed to do PT or Drill. the school made an appointment for me to see the idiot ortho up there for the next morning. he took off the splint and replaced it with a heavy-duty brace and told me I didn't need to use the crutches any more (despite the fact that my ankle was still swollen out to kingdom come and about 12 different shades of black, blue and purple and my toes were so swollen I couldn't bend them)
I informed them of what the doctor told me when I got back to the school and they looked at me like I was nuts. I was then told that I stopped using the crutches before the end of the week I would get in serious trouble and I wasn't taken off of light duty. By the end of the week the swelling had gone down and I was finally able to get around without the crutches on the final day of training and released from light duty. (which meant that I could make the run up crown mountain which is a about 5 mile run up a hill that sits about a 75-80 degree angle and curves around the side of a mountain and no i'm not exggrating)
i was told by the cadre that if i attempted to do the run and fell out of formation that i would get in serious trouble and that it would be better if i just stayed back. (that didn't go over so well with the other cadets in my company but i knew there was no way i would be able to keep up with them and it sucked)
after about 3 days my ankle started going out again and by the following weekend I was hobbling around pretty badly again and ordered to go the infirmary. they sent me back to the idiot ortho who prescribed physical therapy. the physical therapist told the infirmary i needed to start using the crutches again until i could bear full weight on the injured ankle which took about 2 weeks and the physical therapy during that time mainly focused on stretches and the other ankle.
i went to that school for 2-1/2 years. during my last semester there I was placed on complete light duty (no pt and no drill) from the beginning of october until the end of the semester (which was about 2 weeks from christmas) because the doctor was sick of seeing me about once a month because i had sprained my ankle and couldn't walk. he said that i would continue to be on light duty until i brought a note from an ortho back home clearing my ankle for regular duty. but just after thanksgiving break on of the regular army cadre pulled me into his office and asked why i was even bothering to attend the school. i looked him straight in the eye and told him i was there to earn a commission in the U.S. Army. he informed that he would never let me join the military (including as an enlisted solider). after that i asked if i was dismissed, went back to the barracks and informed my father i was dropping out of school. i then went back to the military science office and informed the secutary i was dropping out of school at the end of the semester.

Sprained my left ankle walking through a feild, ended up on crutches for a week. 8 months later sprained same ankle again, walking on city sidewalk. Crutches again. 8 months later sprained it again. I now have permanent damage to my left ankle and am in danger if tearing the ligaments and tendonts if I sprain it again.

I ahve also sprained my right wrist several times over the course of 10 years, definately not as bad as my ankle though. The ankle sprain put me in the ER twice.

Yes and it was my ankle.I was fooling around when walking up the staircase. My right foot slipped backwards to the lower steps behind me and it beared my entire body weight which was of coz so painful that i wanted to die.In about 2 minutes,i didn't even recognise my feet cuz it was swelled up horribly.
Since then,i have repeatedly sprained the same ankle over and over again.A traditional chinese doctor told me that it was no surprise since the bones in my ankle aren't in the right position anymore due to the first accident. When the bones aren't in position,it is likely to have another sprain. That's y i have to get it fixed by letting a doctor push the bones back to where they were.At the moment,i can feel the little bone stretched out of the ankle but it's painless.
