I am trying to download the microsoft crucial updates and for some reason they always fail ive tried manually to download them or to set automatic updates but nothing is working. We did have a virus about a month ago but got rid of that. not sure what is wrong we used to have the updates regularly. Can someone please help me. as our computer keeps crashing and when it sends an error report it tells us we need vital updates. the error code we keep getting is 8000010

Go to this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898509/en-gb and click on Windows Update Support Centre if that is no help then return to previous page and select another choice.

When this recently happened to my PC I asked Microsoft for help and here is what they instructed me to do. Also, when I use Update I ensure my anti-virus program is turned off (but keep your firewall running).

Step 1: Re-register the Windows Update client

1. Quit all programs that are running.

2. Click Start, and then click Run.

3. Type "regsvr32 jscript.dll" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.

4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat inputting the following commands and click OK after each command.

regsvr32 wuapi.dll

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 wuauserv.dll (May have the error "DllRegisterServer entry point was not found".)

regsvr32 wucltui.dll

regsvr32 wups.dll

regsvr32 wuweb.dll

regsvr32 iuengine.dll (May have the error "DllRegisterServer entry point was not found".)
