"Going postal is an American English slang term, used as a verb meaning to commit murder, mass murder or a killing spree in the workplace, generally by a current or former employee. The term derives from a series of incidents from 1986 onwards in which United States Postal Service (USPS) workers shot and killed managers, fellow workers, and members of the police or general public."

Postal menas that you go crazy under pressure. In its most literal form, it means that you take an oozie and shot up the workplace. It seems that during the 1980's especially, more than any other group in the country, postal workers were responsible for this sort of social trauma.

In the past, there have been several instances where disgruntled postal workers have taken guns to work and opened fire at the post office. So, "going postal" is kinda like going crazy or becoming so enraged that you could kill somebody.

Back a while there was a rash of workplace violence in post offices where a lot of people were killed by co-workers. It was happening quite frequently for a while (kind of like the high school massacres like Columbine)

So when someone tells you they're gonna go all postal on you, it means you're about to get your *** kicked.

It basically means to go off the deep end, if you will. I believe this originated with a postal employee losing it and going on a shooting spree-inside a post office!

Yes...go crazy, especially at work. AWOL actually stands for absence without leave (used in the military when you leave and don't get approved)..why are you thinking about it?:)
