If your husband or boyfriend decided at about the age of 30 that he wanted to become a commercial pilot, would you support his decision knowing that he'd be away a lot and most likely would affect your marriage and family. Also, if he wanted to postpone having children until he was done training to be a pilot how would you feel - you would be in your late 30's before he'd want to start a family.

let him know it very risky for a woman in her late 30s to try to concieve, I dont wanna scare you but the risk for genetic disorders increase the longer you wait. Such as down syndrome and spina bifida. And im not sayin that all older women have a baby and something is wrong with it, but your chances increase. go to webmd.com and they talk all about it. But at the same time support his dreams and back him up. you would expect the same from him. Just let him know waiting on a baby is not something you want to do.

Many commercial pilots have wonderful marriages but the timing may be off a bit for you when it comes to waiting to have your family. Perhaps he would consider starting a family now even though it would make things a little harder financially. If not, you can still probably have a baby later when he is ready. Being separated for a few days a week isnt the end of the world but it definately puts a strain on the one left at home. Kind of like being single without the benefits. Think it through. Good luck.

If you are married to the man and you trust him, it shouldn't hurt to let him try. I hope that he already has significant flight training/experience or it will be a long and costly road for you. It takes tens of thousands of dollars to get a commercial license from scratch and beginning pilots make less than $20,000 a year. Captains for the major airlines average $200,000 but that is after 10+ years and/or 10,000 flying hours. If he is the type to stray, find another man. Pilots and stewardesses spend a lot of nights away from home in hotel rooms.

wow, i understand your concern. it sounds like its something he's always wanted to do, so encourage him to. couples are having children later and later in life. i dont see anything wrong with having a family in your late 30's. but if he becomes a pilot he'll be away for days at a time and thats something that comes with his job. with trust and dedication to you and your family his career choice shouldnt be a problem

Yes i sure would as i would want him to be supportive of me and my decisions. I would love him where he is at and be patient with him.... However if you cannot live with this and marry him then do not do it and let him go now.

At least you get free or discounted flights. On the down-side, there's a chance that he'll die in a fiery crash....but still, free tickets. Hmmmmm.
