There are alot of closeminded people still out there and you will probably come across them your whole life, but I think generally people have become more accepting of gays and lesbians. Especially compared to views even 10-20 years ago.

Dont let other peoples mean words bother you. Hate is from generation after generations of hate. People hate what they dont understand and because they hate they dont take the time to understand. Some people break that cycle and just know you are not alone out there. I am not gay, but I have many gay friends and what helps them is knowing that even though some dont understand the ones that do understand are the most important. Keep your head up.

A lot of people think that being gay is wrong, I for one do but I dont hate gay people. Gay people are some of the nices people I know. Your not the only one that goes through that. I have a cousin that is gay his mom wont speak to him and hasnt in years and he shut himself off from the whole entire family. I guess its a really hard thing that you just have to learn to adapt to. People should still accept you for who you are. Just because your gay doesnt make you a bad person.

There are alot of ignorant homophobes. The worst ones are the people who secretly fear that they might be gay so they make a big show of being anti gay.
My best advce is to build a network of other gay people and live in a gay friendly community. Things are actually getting better but there is still a very long way to go.

as you know you have two elemental questions.

As to the first, I think is some human-biology and mostly cultural. most places and times to not like gay people, but some like ancient greece and ancient Japan were much more tolerent.

Some think in america it is the fear that they too might not be normal or are repressing homosexual feelings. (male or female)

Now to the other question...of how can you get used to this...
You need to develop thick rino hide so that it doesn't bother you as much.

and hopefully you can move to a more gay tolerent area.

much, not all of the "bible belt" is intolerent.

now this is easier said than done. I don't have as thick of a hide as I would like , and there are things that get to me.

good luck

There are a lot of close minded people out there and it irritates me. My best guy friend is gay. I love him so much. He copes with it, thanking god everyday, he has a few close friends. You may just be in a very homophobic area (geographically wise) where things aren't as caught up as they should be. Move to San Fransico, It's the bomb there. That way you won't have to cope. You'll just be one happy camper.

Homophobia is gay.

People will always think different and have different moral values which do no fit w/ other peoples doings.
The best way to get "use to it" its by accepting that not everyone will think the same way and that no everyone is "open minded".
Its your life so be comfortable w/ it and don't mind what other people think of you or your sex preference.
Personally I hate labels, I don't think people should be label according to their sexuality.
I don't defind myself as hetero or gay or bi or whatever. Just open to options and love.
Ok girl so don't mind those people.
Life its not always fair.

People are mean because it is somthing that is different to them. They are just narrow minded and should be ignored.

I am not gay, So I am not sure if you can ever get used to it. Also, as you get into a more adult, professional world, you will find that people are more mature, and everyone is less personal. So not everyone will know I am sure.

Rock on!

I knew my nephew was gay when he was a young child. People do not turn gay overnight, they are born that way. You will always find hateful people but you don't have to give them the time of day. Surround yourself with people that will accept you no matter who you are. Peace
