Unfortunately, you're always gonna have to do some telling when it comes to any world you've created, especially one with such an elaborate political backstory. But there are ways you can mitigate it, so it doesn't feel like a history lesson to the reader. You can start off the story with a scene that gets people invested in the characters and wanting to know more. Then when you do the backstory they'll be interested enough to plow through it. You can split the backstory up into little pieces, and sprinkle them throughout the first part of the book. You can have characters provide the backstory information in dialogue, preferably while also sharing their opinions. An advisor might say, "I personally cannot imagine either Annon or Rebos running this empire. A travesty!" Then someone's like, "A travesty? That's a strong word." And the advisor's all, "One would rule Senjele with an iron fist etc etc, and the other blah blah. Sad face." On the whole, I would suggest starting in media res, and give out backstory as you go.

No, but I do have a problem with the voices in my head doing that. My evil twin just laughs and watches the show.
