The answers before are all right, those places are great for wildlife, also Kenya and the Masai Mara but if you want to do a Safari in South Africa you can't go far wrong by going to the Kruger National Park.
Plan to be in a higher vehicle like a people carrier or 4 wheel drive so that you have some elevation over the grasses. Stay in your car !!!!!! and take as much time as you can. go slowly and enjoy the tranquility. That is part of the experience you can't get from the movies.
The other is the smells, the smell of the veld on a dry day or just after the rain, or even as you come on game their smell or the smell of the raw meat at a kill.
In any event where ever you choose to go - you have a great time and don't try and rush it, take as much time as you can.

There are various companies doing long range treks in Africa at affordable rates. Most do the route: Cape Town-Namibia (Namib desert, Etosha)- Botswana (Okavango wetlands)- Zimbabwe/Zambia (Victoria Falls)- Malawi- Tanzania (Serengeti, Ngorongoro)- Zanzibar Island- Kenya. Some also do on-foot gorilla treks in Uganda. Any part of this or other routes can be booked, just hop on the truck where you want to start and hop off where you want to end. The Cape Town to Victoria Falls leg is very popular and takes about 3-4 weeks. Some companies and small group safari operators also cater for tailor designed routes.
Some companies that do long range overland treks are: Nomad/ Whichway, Umkulu, Dragoman, Drifters, Exodus, Kumuka etc. These tours are usually led by 2 guides on a big expedition truck accomodating up to 25 people. All meals and tented accomodation are provided. The group typically consist of single travellers and couples and the travelling is fairly "hardcore" - dont expect an air-conditioned bus or hotel! But an experience you will never forget.
To get you rolling, look at www.nomadtours.co.za .

Botswana is great. 17% of the country's land is dedicated to wildlife areas. And of course there is the world famous Okavango Delta there. Kenya is also excellent although a little more crowded (with people) than Botswana.
You need around 10 - 14 days to do a decent length safari and to give yourself the best chance of seeing all the animals. I would go for longer if I could because I just love the African bush.

It really depends what you want to do? If you want a very fancy game reserve there some amazing places to stay...Madikwe Game Reserve is an amazing place to stay but the best is Sabi Sabi. These are both in South Africa. But for a more hard core experience try the Okavango Swamps of Botswana and try to find an experience in tents. As far as a time legnth, one full week in either spot will be enough. If you do go to South Africa make time to visit Cape Town, the most beautiful city in the world.

The best place for an African Safari is Maasai mara in Kenya. There are fantastic lodges and many animals. You can also get to witness a wilderbeeste migration from Maasai mara to Serngeti (Tanzania) during June-july. It is an awesome place. For a tourist perhaps 4 days would be enough for a safari.

The World famous Serengeti in Tanzania is the BEST place to go on safari in the World. It is the biggest, the fullest of all types of animals and also connected with Ngorongoro crator which is considered among the 7 wonders of the World. Its also in the same country where Kilimanjaro mountain is, which is the highest mountain in the african continent and also the highest standing alone mountain in the World.
I would thoroughly reccommend Serengeti! Unspoilled, more animals than tourists' cars and more original.

Since this question was listed under South Africa, I would suggest Kruger National Park. It's huge, has lots of wildlife and a well established guide system. You can spend from a few days to weeks in the park with accommodations from tents to luxury hotels.
It's best to by a Kruger guide book and see what fits your interests.

This sounds corny yet what in case you undertake the cheetah then take her to construct-a-undergo and function her make a cheetah type cat as a memory...or you additionally could make the cat for her and contain it with the cardboard that tells concerning the adoption. i think of there are in all hazard very lovable safari outfits for the crammed animals. Or what in case you purchase her a CD or mark downs Bond to get her on the line to varsity.
