I have been accepted at SFU but what I really want to know is your personal opinion or your experience. Any gossips about the school's standard will do.

Hi. I don't go to SFU but I have friends who do (some of my former profs have also gone). SFU has a wonderful reputation. It's highly respected in Canada and is consistently rated highly in polls (ie., Maclean's).

I know that SFU's Department of Psychology is also one of the best in Canada. The professors tend to come highly recommended (in terms of teaching standards and cutting-edge research). I also know that the student community is very diverse and active (lots of clubs, organizations, etc.).

The only really negative thing I've heard is that because it's up on a mountain, it can get very depressing for a lot of students. (It's removed from everything and the architecture is not very welcoming.) It is, however, easy to get downtown and to other parts of the city via public transportation. That said, the students I know who attend SFU love it. I haven't heard very many negative things at all (other than it being a very dark, "depressing" university -- the grounds are not particularly peaceful).

What I'd recommend you do is spend a lot of time on their website. Find out as much as you can, so when you finally get to the school, you'll know what resources are available to you. Try to join clubs and make friends as soon as possible.

Also, check out www.ratemyprofessor.com. If you search for the profs who will be teaching the courses you're interested in, you'll be able to check out student reviews and have a better chance at finding a prof suitable for you.

You may also want to check out your local bookstore (or library) for "Maclean's Guide to Canadian Universities". SFU is among the many Canadian universities that has withdrawn from their polls because they were dissatisfied with the methodologies used to rate them. But there's still a lot of valuable information in there. (Ie., who the top profs are, what the best hangout places are, what the best study locations are, what the collest resources are, etc.).

Hope that helps. Sorry I couldn't offer more specifics.
