8x - 4y = 16
y = 2x - 10

8x - 4y = 16
2x - y = 4

2x - (2x - 10) = 4
2x - 2x + 10 = 4
0x = -6
x = -6/0

you want both of them solved?
write me for the second one.
substitution means to replace something.
you have
8x-4y=16
y=2x-10
so you have 2 unkown (x and y) but actually you have only one (x) because you know that y=2x-10 so there you go.
8x-4(2x-10)=16 you just replaced (substitution) the y
that is 8x-8x+40=16 first 8x you have it the second is 4X2x in the brakets then +40 is 4X10 and -X- is + (minus multiplied by minus is plus) so the ecuation has no solution beacuse 8x-8x=16-40 (-40) beacuse when you put the numbers after egual you change their signs (-becomse+ and +becomes-) in conclusion 0x=-24 NO SOLUTION. WHY? because there is no number to replace x that multiplied by 0 gives -24. easy. try the other one by your self and don't forget you know the -x not x so there is a chatch. good luck. let me know if you got it.

one million.) (initiate with backside equation {or whichever is easiest} and get it to "=Y") y - 5x = 3 +5x +5x y= 3+5x substitute 5x- 2(3+5x)=-5 distribute 5x - 6+10x integrate like words 15x - 6 =-5 +6 +6 15x=one million divide by skill of 15 x= one million/15 2). 8x- ( 2x - 4)= sixteen 6x - 4 = sixteen +4 +4 6x=20 /6 /6 x= 3.33333333 or x= 3 (one million/3)
