The backlight went out on your LCD. You need to call the company that made your laptop and see if it's covered under warranty. If not, then take it to a computer repair shop that is willing to fix that type of problem. Just call every computer shop in town and ask if they repair/replace backlights on lcds. I don't recommend fixing it without a professional, as you could electrocute yourself or damage the laptop.

Three things can be wrong with it, either the bulb burned out, or the inverter board that sends power to the bulb is bad, or the switch that turns the bulb off when you close the lid is sticking. Easy way to determine if its the switch is locate the switch and press it with something, usually a tooth pick or something small will work okay. If the computer goes into hibernation, and the light still doesnt come on when you start the computer back up, its not the switch. Most of the time its the inverter board, they are usually anywhere from $30-$120 depending on the model and manufacture and most can be found on ebay. The inverter board is located behind the plastic bezel of the lcd screen, if you have never changed one of these before, then I would recommend taking it to a computer repair center to have the service preformed. Occasionally the bulb will go bad, but usually the screen will turn red before that happens. It is rare for the bulb to go bad, so I would start with the switch first, then go from there.

Connect a friends monitor to your laptop.

Does it work Ok?

If yes

Your Inverter board or backlight have failed.

Both are expensive to repair.

If this is not a warranty issue use your laptop connected to an external monitor, otherwise repair it, or replace it.

You can attach a separate monitor, or you can send your laptop for a repair that might cost more than buying a new laptop.
