To me it depends on the story. As you have said it is usually an intense story. I have had times when a story was so intense I actually had goosebumps. In my experiences it is when the story is true. There have been times when people have talked about experiences where they have felt a person near to them was in their presence. Our world is very complex. Who is to say there are not those among us that relay messages and feelings from where ever it may be.
