they appeared to be traveling faster than the Speed of Light, hopping around, what do the Warp Factor numbers mean, are they equivalent to something like the MACH numbers and the Speed of Sound, but referring to the Speed of Light?

for any like Lord Z, in reference to what and the speed of light (like 2x or 3x the speed of light)? in one episode where they appeared to be going back in time once approached a sun, and slingshot effect, Mr. Spock said, "...we appear to be going faster than the speed of light..." when there time chronometer was reversing

Speed of sound. It warps the sound waves. Same as Mach numbers.

Mateo nailed it. In the Original Series, to find how fast the ship was travelling in terms of c (the speed of light), take the cube of the warp factor. So ...

Warp 1 = 1^3 = 1c (speed of light, 1 raised to any power is 1)
Warp 2 = 2^3 = 8c
Warp 3 = 3^3 = 27c
Warp 4 = 4^3 = 64c

And so on.

According to Michael Okuda, a person who worked on Star Trek, there's a mathematical function for warp speed in the TNG era.

It's s(w)=w^(10/3) *c where c is the speed of light, w is warp factor, ans s is the speed in km/sec

For the Original Series, the function was s(w)=w^3 *c
For this one, there is no warp limit like Warp 10 for the TNG scale

Warp 1 was one tenth the speed of light. If you noticed, They never went higher then warp 9 point 5. Thats because they could not go the speed of light without destroying the ship.

Warp usually refers to the speed the Enterprise is travelling. For instance if they said Warp 2. Thats's 2x the speed of sound.
