I just moved from Chicago to Nashville. Anyone who thinks Nashville is a bunch of hicks needs to visit this city. I'm actually very impressed and surprised in a good way.

No, it's not as large of a city as Chicago, but it's a lot more diverse and cultured, than most people think.

I love it so far. And real estate is so much cheaper here.

I have only been through Nashville once, but it was beautiful around the river.
I live in a similar size town with it's own atmosphere and interesting sites. Most of my friends are from Chicago or St Louis. They thought that Springfield MO was in the middle of nowhere and full of hicks. After getting to know us, they learned it was very different than they expected. People were actually friendly and helpful, unlike Chicago.
One real advantage is housing. Most of them owned a dump of some sort in Chicago and found that with the equity they got out of their dump, they could buy new houses. One friend told me that the house she is now living in is like something one could see only in magazines. Never imagined she could live in something like it.
Even if you don't own a house, your housing $$ will go further in Nashville. Get on the web and find out.
They also had to spend an hour or more to and from work. In Springfield you can get anywhere in 20 minutes, max. I suspect Nashville would be similar.
Not a single one of them would ever move back and a lot have family that came after visiting Springfield.

I have lived in about 20 different towns in Mo and Ks and Co. I rarely spent more than half a school year in one place. I loved it. Moving is exciting, especially today when we can get to and from anywhere within hours.

I wouldnt say a culture shock, but it is VERY different. I stay about 30 min from Nashville and it is not what you probably consider a big city atmosphere. Its a small big city. Also, dont believe all the hype you see on TV. Yes there is a big country music industry, but not everybody is walking around in cowboy boots and saying "HOWDY YALL". That is a big misunderstanding that non Tennesseans have about Tennessee and especially Nashville. Its a cool city to stay in though.

Yes but in a good way.....especially if you like country music. The traffic isn't nearly as bad as it is in Chicago. No toll roads either. The weather is much much much better. The people are a lot nicer. Just be sure to investigate the city before you move there. It's a beautiful city and beats Chicago in many ways.......but there are parts of the town that are not very desirable. Good luck!!!!!! Wish I was moving there.

haha i admire you individuals. i could opt to be one, i visit ask to be one in my next existence. i'm Australian, we've not got an Oprah... :( yet i comprehend Nashville is in Tennesse isn't it?? Nashville music pageant or some thing. So no, i do no longer think of so because of the fact then Chicago does no longer have something. Chicago jogs my memory of solid human beings, like in American video clips Steve Martin will say, we are flying into Chicago. I purely LOVE that. So no, my vote is she keeps to be in Chicago!!
