The Wii comes with 512mb of internal storage space for VC games, extra channels, and photos you upload. It may seem like a small amount of space when compared to the hard drive in your computer, but these old games are small.

You can add an SD card, but it is not needed.

The Wii doesn't have a harddrive. However there is enough space to store a lot of VC games in the Wii's internal memory. You cannot copy stuff bought from the Store to a SD card.

However, the Shop Channel knows which games you bought. So, if you need more space, you can delete a game or other stuff you don't need, and later redownload the game without paying for it again.

I believe you can store a limited amount of games on the actual hard drive, and you have to keep the rest on the SD card. You can't actually play the games from the SD card, you have to switch the games around and move the game in question from the SD card to the Wii. It's a bit of a pain if you have a lot of VC games.
