I put this question in earth sciences and geology
for a very definite reason because it is people in this group that understand what will happen to
to earth sciences if it ever happens. There will simply be little left to study.

If it would be World War III or a nuclear war as would almost certainly be the case with all of the countries which possess nuclear weapons (the United States, Russia, China, India, Israel, Pakistan, Great Britain, France, Iran) taking one side or the other, there is little doubt that life on earth ( obviously including civilization as we know it) would be annihilated. The detonation of large numbers of nuclear weapons, besides the initial destruction of millions, would cause radiation sickness and ultimate death to many of the survivors, while the end result could be "nuclear winter" in which the cloud of particulates produced would block the sun's rays for decades. The History Channel did a program about the top eight possible causes of the potential extinction of the human race, and nuclear war was number three on the list. It is unthinkable that such a war should happen, but with so many countries harboring weapons and so many leaders of questionable morals and sanity, we are truly living on the edge. Hopefully, no one will push the world into the abyss; it would be a tragedy beyond imagining! What if we are the only human-type beings in the Universe, and we destroy ourselves??

Yeah we definitely would. Even if we were to lose, we would still be able to survive before everyone died or it all fell apart. Another world war would be completely different from the likes of WWI and WWII. The style of fighting would be so different now because of technology. The world is essentially at war right now anyway. This could be the new aged World War.

My initial impulsed would be to say no. However, I think that there is a sufficient number of people on the earth, that probably, some would survive - most likely politicians (unfortunately) and the super wealthy.

Regarding the survival of any one civilization, I'm not sure that we have even reached that level (to be considered civilized).

I do basically like the factor of Interstellar return and forth, warp speeds & billion 12 months previous civilisations, in the event that they might return and forth to us could they, why is it we will not hit upon any style of hint of severe capability outputs from those wormholes, warp engines in our very own galaxy's. How lots is the governement preserving returned while it says scans the skies. As they are saying in famous individual Trek "test For Warp Signatures" As for being arranged to conflict extraterrestrial beings, i think any that return and forth right here could be waiting to annilate us, i assume they could want some variety of tension field to return and forth at great speeds via spce, debris & micro comets & stuff, no longer to point area bugs on the windshield. You do comprehend the main effective bomb ever detonated created a mushroom cloud 40 miles severe, probablr devestated the surronding section, that became 50 Megatons, they have been making plans for a hundred Megatons, however the russians ain't as loopy as they seem. so besides that became what so as that became basically approximately 40 years in the past, 15 years of delevoping nucleare wepons creates a bomb with fireball 5 miles in diameter a shockwave became felt over six hundred miles away, could of given third diploma burns over sixty 5 miles away & the backside of the cloud became 25 miles extensive, that became while th ebomb became exploded at a height of two.5 miles, on the floor that should of been made the destruction spred even extra. So with todays technologies a 200Megaton or maybe 500 & one million Gigaton Bomb could basically approximately cripple a small usa, england, scotland, wales, devastate maximum third international coutries yet then you definately ought to get those issues to the extraterrestrial beings area ships, which may well be armed with lasers & such what which might make our rockets greater deadly to us from emp blast to radiation fallout. extraterrestrial beings, warp velocity & billion 12 months previous civilizations, properly one factor at a time eh,

Yes. I guess everyone realized the power and devestating effect of the nuclear bomb after it was dropped on Japan, so they most likely would think twice before starting a nuclear war and destroying everything.
