I mean we arent down or under anything, so why do they call us that?

Because We live in what cartographers refer to as the 'Antipodes", i.e. that part of the world which is located at a point approximating the geographically diametrically opposed position of either the British Ilse, or Continental U.S. of A. We (Australians) are down under the horizon.

look at a globe and you'll realize if it is down under. not only americans - i believe - aussies too say they're from down under.

i learned the phrase from the Men at Work song "I come from the land down under" , and this band is australian.

If you look at a map of the world, it's at the bottom. I don't think we gave it the nickname.
