Nope. Memorization is good for some things (like if you're learning the periodic table), but if you don't know how to apply what you've learned to real life, you're screwed. Oh, and plus there's comprehension...you can memorize what words look like in order to read, but without comprehension, they're just words on a page, not a story.

Almost everything. You still have to "learn to learn." I think that memorization is really big in terms of education, though.

Yeah, knowledge, understanding, and memorization are pretty important in educations. Memorization isn't everything though, what if you memorize but you don't understand, because then it's incomplete?!

You better use your memory now, cause you lose it when you get old!
I do believe a good memory is of the utmost importance in terms of education. You need it to pass the exams and finals in school.
And when you are working, a boss really appreciates an employee with a good memory, when he can't recall something and relies on you, especially in an accounting type of position.

Its one of many tools and concepts in learning. Theres also
hands on learning and repetition. Not everyone has or had a
excellent memory and yet are highly intelligent and educated.

for elementary education, yes. high school is more applying knowledge one has memorized, while college is conceptual and abstract thinking.
