Really, what do you expect teachers to do? For one, no body wants kids to go to school during the summer, it's unproductive, and have of america is driven by the money that is made by these kids in the summer. Second, teachers are paid in relation to the break. I have a masters degree and make 34,000 a year. Why? Because in the summer, I can pick up a job for 8 weeks and pull in another 4 or 5 thousand. If I worked like other people, I'd get paid like other professonals. And some teachers do work at the school all summer, and do get paid extra for it... I'd say about 80-90% of teachers do have some paying job over the summers.

It's like a punishment or reward sort of thing. They pay for a certain amount of time. If they want more time, it cost more money. Teachers could easily work 52 weeks a year, but that would come with a pretty nice raise.

My goodness, I didn't know I got summers off. I guess I was just too busy taking classes, getting my room ready for the next year, shopping garage sales to buy games and books with my own money, previewing new textbooks, and working a summer job to make ends meet to realize I got summers off.Plus that, during the school year I am working any extra duties, such as tutoring, coaching, student council sponsor, detention duty to try and make ends meet. Not to mention that my contract only pays me from 7:45 until 3:30 but I am almost always there until 6pm. People don't go into teaching for summers off or the money, we do it because we have an opportunity every day to make a difference in a child's life. Can you say that about your job?

They dont get the entire summer off! They work after school is out and they go back before school begins. Yes they get a few weeks off a year and well that is just a job perk! If you have a problem with teachers having summers off then maybe you should really push the issue of 'year round schooling'. I say Dont Hate on the teachers, wining spoiled little kids who just want to play is why they have the summer off.

maybe, flatly grounding him for the whole summer became over-reacting. He did no longer do the artwork in the process the common college 365 days, yet he redeemed himself for the period of summer college. i could sit down him down and rigidity that this entire mess might have been prevented if he had utilized himself top from the initiating. i could tell him that as a reward for his glaring difficult artwork, he can take exhilaration in something of the summer holiday like his acquaintances are, yet whilst college starts, he would be on a "short leash" the place his college artwork is in touch. His loose time would be limited so as that he can committed greater time to reading and doing his assignments. If this ability that he isn't allowed to connect greater-curricular activities, so be it. purely remember, you may not anticipate greater advantageous than that he tries his terrific. no longer every person is able to having straight away A's. although, he must be embarrassed approximately having something under a C.

Not all teachers get the summer off. Some have to go to college to take graduate classes in order to keep up their certificate to teach. Others are off because there is no school in session.

It goes back to agrarian times when students helped out at home growing crops and harvesting the field...

Which is how colleges recognized that time so students could help out at home...

Perhaps you didn't grow up in a place that was connected to the cycles of the earth's harvest......and even though it is hard to believe there are still many places acoss our country where the agrarian cycle means something .............

When is the last time you grew your own garden to supply your veggies for a year??????????????
