Yes, carry on. Be aware though that no new friend can take that person's place. You just have to acquire new friends. Having said that though, be aware that some of these new friends will disappoint you, but still, you have to persevere and move on with your life.

Some advice: If you already do not have a strong connection to your spiritual side, do so now -- and don't rely on future friends to fill that void for you. Also remember that you will see your former friend again -- you will be reunited.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend .I lost my Friend one year ago this Month she was my Best friend ,She had leukaemia. and I thought my life was over I went on for days not even knowing how I got anything done.She was my Rock.I keep her memory alive my talking about her and I have a picture on my computer stand in a frame that says my Best friend.We have to carry on and one day we will see them again in Heaven.

You also have to show that you honor your past relationship with your friend of 42 years as you move on. That way, when you address recognition of your friend, you heal much more quickly.
