"No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The U.S. is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions."

In many states (over half) it is legal to marry your first cousin and in even more states you can marry your 2nd cousin. When you start talking about 3rd cousin and farther you are barely related.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd US President, married his 4th cousin, Eleanor

to those above that say if you are in any way related, then no: if you go back far enough, then EVERYONE is a distant cousin of each other. Going back to the original question: to me a 3rd or 4th cousin is about the demarcation line of date/don't date. If you kind of grew up together and are a lot closer in sibling sort of way, then that's a bit shady to me. but if you just met, I'm not opposed

Some people may say it's wrong. In my state you can't marry if you are 1st or 2nd cousins. I happened to marry a double cousin. Fourth on one side and third on another. We''re as happy as can be and very compatible. I don't regret one moment marrying him. We've been married 2 1/2 years and not had one arguement. We're deepy in love!

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th cousin is not acceptable for me personally. If someone dated or married a cousin of any kind, I would consider it incestious and gross.
