Possibly the emotional state of the people involved. Each different historical film takes varying amounts of liberties with accuracy. For instance, Saving Private Ryan was based very loosely on an actual event. However the main strength of that film was not something that actually happened but in how terrible combat was.

About the only thing you can count on "for sure" in learning from a historical movie is what countries were involved. After that things just vary way too much.

the film makers are more interested in making money than adhering to historical accuracy. as a prime example the movie about Memphis Belle is a prime example.

there was a student who gave a report on the movie which was inaccurate at his history class and received a failing grade.
