Violence in the media only triggers violence in people who are violent to begin with.

Violence on TV desensitizes people.

In some ways that's good. For instance, if the folks on Jackass weren't desensitized, they wouldn't have done all that hilarious stuff, because fear of consequence would have justified common sense. And, of course, there are the jackass copy cats that we see in the news too.

I would not put a bee on someone's neck and wait for the sting. That's just plain mean! That guy was assaulted! ...okay, I laughed. ALOT. Am I desensitized?

My personal opinion: Violent TV doesn't make non-violent people violent. I figure non-violent people aren't particularly drawn to violence and would turn the channel.

BUT, I DO think that violent TV desensitizes people that are already open to violence and gives them some additional ideas, much the way Yahoo Answers gives seekers what they are open to.

And a final tacky thought on TV influencing behavior: porn on TV doesn't make people porny, right?

my friend played a game that involved acting violently towards officials. whenever he sees a police officer, he picks up a rock and throws it at him/her. whenever he does that, i pretend i dont know him while he runs away.
