People, as a general rule, are dumb and can't think for themselves. Parents these days are extremely selfish when naming their poor childern. They name their kids names that are trendy, not caring that their child will share the same name as the rest of their class. They don't consider how their child will feel about this - all they care is "I like it and I'm the one who has to live with it" not considering that it is, in fact, their child who must deal with the name for their entire life.

I think due the the combination of Irish names becoming so popular and Carrie's boyfriend on Sex and the City. My daughter is in daycare and there are 7 Aidens in a group of 50.
Its a beautiful name, just way over used at this time.
Years ago it was Megan, Brittany, Joshua and Dakota
Now its, Mia, Emma, Aiden and Ethan

There are more characters named Aiden on TV. Names are trendy. There were twenty some Susans in my high school. My daughter Hannah came a few years before the giant surge in baby girls named Hannah.

All I know is that when my mom suggested the name Aiden to me for my baby on the way the first thing that popped into my head was Sex and The City. I didn't notice that name very much before his character.

In 1995, according to the Social Security lists, the name Aiden ranked 935. It continued to slowly gain ground over the years and in 2000, when the character Aiden was introduced on Sex in the City, it sky rocketed in popularity.
The ranks are as follows:
Year......Ranking (in the top 1000)
2005......49
2004......60
2003......73
2002......135
2001......217
2000......324
1999......474
1998......545
1997......636
1996......824
1995......935
As for the other variations, I am guessing that they are related to Aiden but people looking to put a fresh spin on it.

Usually someone uses a name, & there begins the "telephone" chain. Everyone has friends & family, & they know people. It eventually gets around. The things with names now are something new & trendy. They desperately try to escape the OLD traditional names. Then again, who wants to call their son D ick?

all the names ending in Aden are super popular.
Jada and Will Smith have a Jaden, Hayden Christensen played Darth Vader.
So I think best to avoid any form of Aidan or Jaxson, Dawson etc.... too

I think it became popular from the show Sex and the City when Carrie dated Aiden and he was hot. I had never heard it before then.

It is a beautiful name and many romance authors have been using it in their books as main charcter names. Also, i think many movies/TV shows are using it for characters.
I personally love the name, but i would never name my child that because i do not want to be known as Adien B. because i was always know either as Jenny D. or Jennifer D.
