With regards to what? We're probably just about the most prude first world country, if that's what you mean.

I don't know why. I guess because we're also one of the most Christian first world countries.

You have to define what you mean by strict. They keep passing more and more laws, but not enforcing them. We don't have safer cities, but we're 1/2 way around the world showing the Iraqis how democracy works. The more laws a country makes shows how little freedom their citizens really have. There is not a large city in this country that I would like to raise another family in. The gap between the rich and poor has never been greater while the stability of the middle class erodes. I'm looking into emigrating shortly to a neighboring country where they are stricter on crimes of violence and less intrusive in the family.

Well once 9/11 happened, it changed America in how it does things, no longer are airports and borders relaxed (Except for the Mexican border) Now, airports are checking more thoroughly, and now having a passport is a requirement. You can't blame our country for wanting to avoid another terrorist attack. Would any other country honestly keep to it's ways if attacked to such a degree where you see very important structures reduced to rubble, and where 3000 innocent people die? I think it's highly unlikely that any other country would just go on like nothing happened if such a thing happened. The safety of the American people is a top priority of the government, so it does it's best to do so at the expense at foreigners traveling here.

The US has become too politically correct, thus has introduced a whole series of laws to clamp down on nearly everything
Remember it is the most legislated country in the world. Think of all the stupid lawsuits that occur with people suing others over idiotic things.

The only people who are benefiting are the lawyers.

Yes, it has. Too many laws made for our own good and not enough personally being held accountable for your own actions. The government and the people do not have the right to tell you what you can do with your own body, it belongs to you. If you are stupid enough to use drugs or drink yourself to death or smoke that's your business, not the government's.

A large percentage of our taxes are to enforce laws forcing people to behave in a certain way. Taxes are invariably a drag on the economy and each dollar of taxes comes out of your pocket. It doesn't matter if it is a corporation being taxed or a direct tax on you, you still pay the cost of the government interfering in your life along with the loss of your freedom.

No. Strict how? Young people swear like sailors. People don't need to dress formally for work much anymore. Writing in English is degenerate. Almost everything seems so lax it's like no one give a crap anymore.

strict in what? i would assume you mean with the borders and such because of the recent change in passport rules.

in the wake of the immigration issue, this seems like a logical step to take in stepping up efforts although more would need to be done.

Like the frog in the pot (slowly heated) people of the USA have allowed their freedom to slowly disappear.

No; if anything it has become too loose. discipline is practically outlawed, kids have guns in school, 8 year olds have been raped by their peers. We need to tighten the reins.
