I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler (Sahara) and I noticed a few days ago that the oil pressure gauge that would normally read about 40 psi is now reading just about 80 psi consistently. It doesn't matter if it is as soon as I get in the car in the morning or if I'm been on the road for and hour - the pressure is reading high. Other then that, everything seems to be running just fine. Any idea what could be causing this? Is there something I can do or do I need to get to the Jeep into the shop right away? Is this going to end up costing me a small fortune to get corrected?
In case it matters, I do change the oil regularly and it has 160,000+ miles.

Your oil pressure gauge is electric. Chances are that the sender is out of spec, and replacing it might correct the problem. BUT you could also have a defective dash gauge, or a poor connection at the gang plug behind the instrument cluster.
Try the sender first. They aren't all THAT expensive, probably < $35.00.

Well if it is cold where you live the pressure tends to be higher.Just worry about the pressure being low and be sure to give it an oil change every 3-4 thousand.

I would bring it in to a repair shop and have them test the oil pressure with a different oil pressure gauge.
