Perhaps this is a little OCD like others have suggested. If this is a something that interferes with daily life and created problems with functioning, then you might want to talk to someone (psychologist, LPC, etc). If not, just something you do that is annoying but you live with, it might not be that big of a deal. My husband is a perfectionist, but it doesn't cause him GREAT distress when things aren't exactly right.
OCD is a term that is thrown around a little too much in society. We all have our weird "quirks" and are a little OCD at times, but it doesn't mean we all have obsessive-compulsive disorder. True OCD is when the "messy" handwriting is making you anxious and re-doing it over and over again is an attempt to ease this anxiety, but usually causes more and creates a circle of anxiety.
As for solving the problem, there is always Response-Prevention Therapy. Exactly as it sounds, you prevent the response - You make someone take the paper away from you so you cant re-do it and then learn to relax and ease the anxiety. This is one treatment for OCD, but again I say - if it isn't distressing, then don't worry about it too much. Also, for it to be true OCD, there have to be other obsessions and compulsions, not just the one.

You know what? I also have the very same problemGreat minds think alike. But I don't think that's bad at all. I think that's a good thing Maybe, you 're just a meticulous person and a perfectionist. There's nothing wrong to strive for good grammar, good spelling, good English and the right Math answers. That's the sign of the analytical mind.
When I go to answer any question; sometimes, I'm the very first. But after spending sometime to correct any typos; I lose the chance to become the first. Oh well, at leat I felt justified that I did a good job. That I gave it my all!
Because I also believe that if you can not do the job right; don't attempt to do it at all.

i do that a lot in english. i dont know if its ocd... but i have a lot of things i do that one would think would be some symptoms of OCD... like my locker at school, it has to be organized with my books going from left to right in the order of the classes and it has to be neat. my wallet has to be neat with the bills going from smallest to largest (ones in the front, then 5's, 10's, 20's, 50's, 100's). my pens.... i use BIC with grip. i hate blue pens. the clip part of the cap on the pen has to be pointed at the BIC logo when the cap is on, and has to cover the USA when i am writing with it. i dont know why, it just bothers me. it just looks messy. is there something wrong with me?!

Do you have OCD or your probably a perfectionist thats ok but try not to spend all of your time on little things like that or you will miss the true meaning of things.

If you're doing this because you think it's going to prevent something bad from happening then you might want to educate yourself about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Especially if this behavior is disruptive to your daily functioning, or causes you appreciable stress.

To improve upon your work, to double-check and modify and tweak is part of the pursuit of excellence. As with anything, moderation is healthy. Excessive or obsessive tweaking is unhealthy.
