I mean they do not live in the wild , and they do not have to find their own food.

But goldfish do live in the wild under the name of carp. There are many lakes and ponds here where the goldfish have been released or got loose from ponds and have made it into other ponds or lakes and cause quite a problem with the native fish population. They can grow to a fair size as well.

Actually, they do live in the wild, where they do find their own food. Also, they are not the only fish that are kept by humans.

goldfish are decended from wild fish -- it has taken 1000 years of breeding them to get them like they are today. some survive easily in the wild. fancy goldfish usually can too if they don't have competition for food. they will not breed in the wild so you don't see ponds full of them because they are busy making babies.

they do have the longest history of being domesticated. by comparison bettas have only been domesticated for a little over 100 years.
