Well, here is my list. You will need to upgrade the RAM.
Option 1- MacBook Pro = 1 gig RAM. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.3 GHz processor. 140 gig Hard Drive. + additional 1 gig RAM + Windows Vista Home Premium+ External Mocrosot Compatible mouse (say, 30 bucks for an average one).
It meats your battery standards (heck, all laptops do, nowadays).
The total is $ 2200 - Student discount.
If this is a bit too expensive, try-
Option 2- Mac Book.
512 mb RAM (upgrade cost=+ $160) Core 2 Duo 1.7 GHz processor, I dunno the Hard Drive.
+ Vista Home Premium, and external PC mouse =
$ 1300-1500.
If you dont want a Mac,
Option 3- A Dell or HP one with 1 gig, core 2 duo 1.7 GHz, and 120 gig Hard Drive, for well under that
hope this helped. gotta run!

Well, the two I'm seriously looking at are:
The Compaq Presario V5201CA (Mobile AMD Sempron 3300+ at 2GHz, 128MB cache, 1Gb memory [DDR2], ATI Xpress 200M, 80Gb HDD, DVD+/-R/RW, 15.4" Widescreen, 56k fax modem, network card & wireless networking capability)
The Compaq nx6325 Notebook (AMD Turon 64x2 TL60 at 2GHz, 1 Gb L2 cache, ATI Xpress 1150 chipset, max 4Gb DDR2 memory (2 slots), 100Gb HDD, DVD+/-RW, 15" display, gigabit network card, & wireless capability.)
I don't have a price on the first, but the second with XP Pro is C$1,599.
Both are also Vista ready...not that I personally want Vista.

apple macbook is my suggestion... remember that HP bought Compaq (and we all know what Compaqs were like)... best bet very functional and you can stll do windows stuff on it minus the viruses, spyware, and other bad stuff that windows can catch.
