"For this assignment, you will be working individually to assemble a step-by-step model of the cell cycle on a poster. The model will have different materials to represent the different parts of the cell. Examples of materials that you can use are: pasta shapes, sweing materials, carpentry items, desk "junk", ect. These models should not have edible materials on them! All items representing parts should belong to the same "family". You need t make sure that you use small items that will stay glued to your poster."

Use yarn or rubber bands for the spindle.
Use ziti pasta for centrioles.
Use pipe cleaners or the twist-ties from bread sacks for chromosomes.

Why not use Jello as the main body of the cell (cytoplasm)? Then use some gauze fabric as the cell membrane? It should match the colour of the jello though but maybe you could dye it? For the chromatin why not twist up some black rubber bands really tight until they become a solid ball and again cover this in gauze fabric but leave room for the nucleolus. Might want to this inside a small spherical container of some sort to represent the nucleus and inside it the chromatin and nucleolus. Cover it in gauze fabric to represent the membrane! For the other organelles do something similar but represent them in a way that is structurally accurate but do a cross section of them so your teacher knows what trying to represent.
