"Reticent " means not in a hurry, kind of hesitant. So it means that they weren't ready to reveal any romantic interest, either because they weren't sure they had any yet, or because they didn't want to tell anyone yet. It doesn't necessarily mean (but could) that they are already in love but just want to keep it a secret.
