looking 4 an older movie somthing ab music..boys private sch. a black janitors son who ended up singing lead.?

This movie mustve been around the 1980's or so..the setting was @ a boys school... the janitors son, who was a *****, would listen to the boys practicing daily, he learned the songs etc. & in the end, ended up singing the lead..a real touching story.. I always thought the name was Music from the Heart.. but it is not the name of the movie.. Please help me find this movie...Thank You..
