A router is sort of like an operator. It takes the signals from your networked computers and your internet connection and makes sure the data gets were it is suppose to.

As far as brands i like dlink myself, but others like linksys or netgear as well.

Now when you say you want to use it with you PS3 and a modem, you are talking about DSL or cable right? Not a dialup modem...Because a router will not connect to a regular modem, but you can use a computer as a gatway using a regular modem if you dont have a high speed connection.

If you have a high speed connection you would connect the modem to your wall, then connect your DSL/Cable modem to the routers WAN port.

After following the setup instructions for the router and verifing your internet connection works you would either install a wireless adapter in your PS3 or connect the PS3 to the router using ethernet cable.

A instantaneous modem router could be a instantaneous router/modem combination and a instantaneous router could purely be a router by ability of itself. in case you had intense-velocity cable information superhighway you're able to wish a modem linked to a instantaneous router to get on line.

To keep from writin a book, radio waves is the answer! Just buy any wireless router that has extra network ports on it! Linksys is what I use.

okay pretty sure the ps3 doesn't have a wireless card thus you won't be able to use a wireless modem to connect it

it essentially locks onto your wireless internet signal and strengthens it, broadcasting it farther to give you a greater range of motion while still maintaining your connection. As for brands, I'm not sure which would be best. Sorry.
