It would require so many windings and so much current I doubt it could practically be done.

Strong magnets are either very big or, if electromagnets, have a lot of iron and electric current. If you are wrapping a donut magnet make sure you throughly cover the surface with wire and have a good electrical source.

You need a piece of solid iron
Wrap A LOT of coils around it

THen you'll have a wicked elec magnet
