I've been hearing about an older lady that cooks food out of her own kitching in Macon and serves it to whoever shows up each day. The place is called the Honeybear or Honey Bear. I found the directions somewhere on the internet, but they led me to an old warehouse district with one-way streets! It is now my mission to find this place. Anyone know where it is?

It is a restaurant, not a daycare. Also, I said it was listed online, but the address took us to the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for the try with the Bear's Den. That, unfortunately, isn't the place. It is called the Honey Bear. That's about the only thing I know, though. :(

I live in Macon. I've spoken to people who have allegedly eaten at this Honeybear place. I don't believe these people. The Honeybear is an urban legend spread by B-horror movie loving freaks!

Kind of late on this, but The Honey Bear closed up a number of years ago (late 80's/early 90's). It was down in the industrial part of DT Macon (6th St or something like that). I ate there a LOT back in the 80's. Not knocking Mama Louise & the H&H, but the Honey Bear was THE BOMB. It was a meat & 3 veggies place. For $7-8, you would get more food than you would EVER know what to do with, and it was probably the best food you could ever hope to touch. The biggest problem I had with the place, was the fact that I could barely walk when I left. If you ate there at lunch, you could bet money that you would be full the rest of the day - dinner was never required afterwards!

I don't know of The Honeybear. Could it be the Bear's Den? at 1191 Oglethorpe St, Macon, GA 31201 (Shamrock St, just NE of Mercer University, near RR tracks) - 478/745-9909 - Small cafeteria serving Southern homestyle country cooking with daily meat-and-2 or meat-and-3 plate lunches such as fried chicken, chicken livers, liver and onions, hamburger steak, baked chicken chicken and dumplings, lasagna, meatloaf, pork chops - Sides such as black-eyed peas, coleslaw, collards, corn fritters, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, squash casserole, fried green tomatoes, turnips.
