No, we haven't required it for over 200 years. I am not against it personally, but I don't see that military service in and of itself would make a tremendous difference in how the president can serve in the office. That could disqualify a lot of good people that never served for a lot of different reasons.
But, if you feel strongly about it, feel free to write your reps and rally the cause.

Not necessary, look what happened to kerry last night and today. He ran out of the SOTUS crying, and then announced today that he was quiting (just like he did in Vietnam) has bid for president.

Intelligence, teamwork, and consistency is the key to a good commander in chief.

We need a CIC who will listen to our generals!
Not politicians running a war.
You would think we learned something from the Vietnam war, our Generals, and weapons manufacturers have but not our president and his crony's!!!!
Shame full!
Bush had some experience....whenever he felt like showing up...
but that wasn't "ground experience"
I don't think its necessary,
look at F.D.R.
I could go on and on...
Bottom line is Bush and Cheney are idiots!

I believe that duty should lie with the officers in charge who are actually in the military. Although it was a big help when Eisenhower was in power because his military experience was so vast.

Being a "Grunt" is hardly as valuable as say, growing up in a House where your Dad was the HEAD of the CIA, and then operating as an Officer!
