This is not easy to answer because of the difference of laws goeverning Countries and States.
generally companies like AT&T can apply for an easment across a property or an easment to erect some equipment. This easment should show on your land tax statement or Land office Portfolio assigned to your property.

In some instances compulsory aquisition of a portion or proportion of the land regardless of ownership can be provided to a company by a governing body for the use of.. without any compensation other than a peppercorn ( called peppercorn rent)

If in your case neither are valid, then did the previous owner give a verbal or written permissiion for the pole to be erected?

If no again, you may write to the company and request a copy of the document pf permission to erect the structure. If they have none you may then in someinstances seek compensation, or have it removed.

But as I said before you need to knwo the details before seeking removal or compensation.
Step one would be to contact your local govt body and see when it was erected and by what order.

No. It's called eminent domain/right of way. Your backyard serves the greater good of the community.

I have one in my yard. I had to pay for it. My house is too far from the road to reach with the power line.

No they have a "right of way" in your yard regardless of where you live. You can ask them to move it, but it will cost lots!!

Good Luck.

Was it there when you bought the place or did they put it in after you owned it?
