Around the World Math is a favorite one among 4th or 5th graders. Also, you can take this time to review for upcoming quizzes or the dreaded standardized test. Try to make it fun by playing Jeopardy. I have a Jeopardy board that I use or you can use the directions in the link below to make your own Jeopardy PowerPoint. The children love current game shows such as Identity, One vs. One Hundred, Deal or No Deal, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire (you get the picture). If you need instructions on how to play Around the World Math or if you would like ideas on how to incorporate game shows into review for quizzes just contact me and I will be more than happy to help.

Sparkle. My teacher plays that at the end of the day. It i s when all the students get in a circle around the room, and you select the first kid. You say a spelling word and the kid says the first letter, then the second student says the second, etc. When the last letter has been said, the student who said the letter must say SPARKLE. Then, the student next to him/her in the direction you are going is out. It is simply a game of luck and knowledge of your spelling words. Ex: 1 says S. 2 says I. 3 says G. 4 says N. 5 says E. 6 says D...Sparkle. 7 is out. OR you could just play plain old trivia such as Brain Quest.

hi
i don't remember the name of the game i think it's like corners or something.
first u number off the 4 corners in the room. 1, 2,3,and 4. then u have somebody be it. they count 2 like 25 or somethin and all the other kids quietly hide in a corner. the counter has his/her eyes covered at all times. when the person is done counting then guess a corner number (while his/her eyes r still closed). then all the ppl in that corner have 2 sit down. and it repeats until the last person is found. last person standing is it 4 the nxt round.
i used 2 love this game when i was in grade school. hope this helps

Buzz!
You have the kids count up from one except
they say buzz for any number with a 3 in it or divisible by 3. It sounds like
one , two, buzz, four...
If someone makes a mistake (wrong number, buzz when it shouldn't be or number when it should be buzz) then they sit down and the next person must say the correct number. It gets tough in the 30's because they lose track.
Once they get this add in fizz for any number with a 5 or divisible by 5.
Or simon says. Or I spy. Or 20 questions.

4 Corners, theres a counter in the middle of the room and there is 4 corners in the room. Then all the students except for the counter quietly pick a corner and then the counter who has his eys closed picks a corner and whoever is in that corner has to sit back down and the last like 4 people all have to go in different corners and whoever is last wins! Simple and Fun!!

My mother has this game in her Daycare and on inservice days the school age children love to play "Teacher's Quiz" It's a trivia game that covers science/math/history/spelling/art and a couple of others that I cant recall. It's a board game. Must answer correctly to finish but this could be changed to be done on the blackboard too.

5th grade and they need games? Why not a period of quiet reading or extra time to catch up on homework.
