how can i find out if its a male or fem

Depends on the species. Many have different colors. Goldfish have tubercles and different vent shape. Livebearers have external reproductive organs. Bettas and other labyrinth fish have obvious ovipositors.

It depends on the variety of fish. With live breeders, usually the males are much more brightly colored. It gets more complicated with egg layer. Try buying a book from a pet shop or get one fromt he library to explain it. Pictures work wonders. Oh, in egg layer the female bodies are usually wider.

I would think the pet stores could answer that. I know with birds like budgies it's in the colour of the top of beaks, but fish...good question.

Depends what kind, males usually are prettier, they have brighter colors and longer fins.
