SRS- Sexual Reassignment Surgery

It's legal but is it a high priced mutilation? After all, DNA cannot be changed one is either xx or xy and not any surgery can change that.

mutilation is an emotive term, that's the only problem I have with an otherwise very good question.

One's DNA determines one's physiological gender. It doesn't provide one's sense of gender.

If I were psychologically, emotionally (and some have suggested neurologically) female, then I should think that SRS to modify my body shape into something closer to my ideal would be a correction, rather than a mutilation.

Just like getting a cleft palate fixed.

Sexual reassignment surgery, provided it's done safely like any other surgery, is far from mutilation. In fact, it's saved many transgendered people from suicide and is the end to the path of ultimately being true to themselves.

Circumcision however, IS mutilation and also medically unnecessary. In Ontario, it's no longer insured under OHIP (the Ontario Health Insurance Plan). People consent to sexual reassignment surgery because as adults they can make an informed decision on whether or not it's best for them. I doubt you see a baby boy or a teenage girl in Africa consent to circumcision.

you are clearly not a transgender person
and have never really looked deep in your soul to find who you are
i am a pre op m2f transsexual myself i have felt the need to live as a female and now work as a female
i have chosen to get the surgery one day but i find it is a medical answer to the depression and anguish i get being some thing i am not (a male)
what makes you a male or female in society is what you have in your pants
what makes you a male or female in your own head is you thoughts
the operation for transgender m2f and f2m are purely a way to help society and a person live and be a better person on the in side and out
i do not value my penis at all and would cut it off myself if i knew i would not bleed to death in fifteen minutes or less
many transgender people are not xy and xx chomesone as are many straight normal people
if there was a way to change that to make me happy i would do that operation or treatment as well but i feel that is some thing that makes no difference to me i am XXY any way not that it means and differance to what i feel or look like

Actually, there are FIVE count them FIVE biological sexes, speaking only in genetic terms. You can have XXY, XO, and I don't remember the other one. But the fact is, biological sex isn't as simple as everyone would have you think. Add to that that GENDER is how one identifies and wishes to interact with society, and you can see how things get more complex. Why does it bother you that someone doesn't want to be seen the way YOU see them? Or, if someone IS seen the way you see them, why should their history, or their genetics, matter? Do you care if I carry the alcoholism gene if I don't drink?
