Women who's first babies are larger than average at birth tend to always have large babies. Similarily, If the first baby is smaller than average, her other children will be too. Can this pattern be explained only on the basis of genes, or are there other factors involved.

I'm not sure where you are getting your facts, but I don't believe that the weight of the first born dictates the weight range of the following siblings. There are also many factors such as diet and diabetes that affect the birth weight of children.

other factors such as over due one extra week a baby can pack an extra 1 pound

no..it just is carried by the genes a specific charecterstics.

I would think that genes would be the reason 99.99% of the time. the.0.01% are other factors.
