I agree with bzzflygirl. The soap is more likely to harm the fish than the touching, provided, of course, that you didn't injure the fish while touching it. An experience fishkeeper knows how to properly touch and pick up fish with their hands, but I don't recommend it to those who haven't learned how.

As long as there was no soap on your hands, it likely won't but it could get sick if your hands were dry.
The slime that covers the fish is a protective coating to the fish. By touching with dry hands or by rubbing it, you remove the coating leaving the fish more vulnerable to diseases. Most sports fishermen who catch and release know this and always wet their hands before touching the fish.

Ha, no your fish will not die, in truth, unless you have some chemical on your hands at the time, the fish will be perfectly fine. I actually hand feed my Betta sometimes. Many people hand feed their fish, if you attempt this, wash wash wash your hands very good.

No he isn't going to dye even if you had soap residue on them. You should not touch or hold your fish. This causes their slime coat to be removed allowing parasites a chance to get at your fish (mostly ich.)
Follow the rule of thumb, if you aren't cleaning the tank, Hands out. For the health of your fish.

The fish is going to be fine as long as you always wash your hands and dont left any soap stay on them.

nope he is fine. some fish are more fine with it than others. you might want to put a little extra water conditioner in if he lost some slime or something. some of my bettas like being handled but most of the don't. you can usually hold goldfish and they don't care.

Hopefully not, what could kill him quickest are the traces of soap on your hands, not the actual touching.
