any thing neon colored by pacific sunwear. skate board style. Madonna in the like a virgin era, big hair that was feathered back and bangs that were hairsprayed straight up in the air.
don't forget the acide washed jeans, ripped shirts, hypercolor color changing shirts. aviator sugnlasses. michael jackons infamous white glove and red leather jacket.
the whole jazzercise look with leotards, tights and legwarmers. pegged jordache jeans. vests. jelly sandals.
Watch movies like pretty in pink, breakfast club, sixteen candles, ferris bueller's day off, weird science. these all capture the mid 80s. style from like 1984 - 88

Okay take the easy route in planning for this go to Blockbuster and rent "Pretty In Pink", "The Breakfast Club", "St Elmo's Fire", "Flashdance" or even "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
Those should give you a pretty good idea of 80's style.
I was in Jr. High and High School in the 80s.

Actually we didn't do mini skirts. Big farrah fawcett bleached blonde hair, spandex pants or chamin defer white low rise button down sailor bell bottom pants, platform heals or stilettos with ankle socks, ballet flats, jellies sandles, off the shoulder ripped up sweat shirts (Flashdance) in neon colors, leggings with bluejeans, lots of flat skinny belly showing, skinny metalic headbands across the forehead. Think late disco era, early Madonna "like a virgin" fashons. Makeup was lots of shiney lip gloss, pastel eyeshadow, thick brooke shield eyebrows. Boys wore trenchcoats (depeche mode), Totally custom fabric vans, long shorts, long bowl haircuts

gosh, now i feel really old. i grew up in the 70's and 80's. in the eighties everything "big" was in. big hoop earrings, big, thick belts, big hair and long nails. mini skirts with the long shirts and thick belts, sound like a plan to me. oh and for shoes, low pumps were in.
sounds really fun, have a great time.
